How to Verify a Professional Email Before Using It
Why verify emails
A bounce rate above 5% damages your sender reputation. Above 10%, your account risks suspension. Verification is mandatory before bulk sending.
ContactEra's classification
HOT — found on Contact page. Very reliable. WARM — generic email (info@). Reliable 90%+. LOW — found in source code. Verify before sending.
Email verification tools
NeverBounce: Bulk verification, reliable, from $0.003/email. Integrates with most email tools.
ZeroBounce: Verification + quality scoring. Identifies catch-all servers and temporary emails.
EmailListVerify: Good value for high volumes. From $0.001/email.
These tools check if a mailbox actually exists on the server without sending an email. Reliability rate: 95-98%.
The catch-all server trap
Some email servers are configured as catch-all: they accept ALL emails, even those addressed to non-existent mailboxes. Result: an SMTP verification tool will say the email is valid, but your message goes into the void.
Company domains (contact@mycompany.com) are rarely catch-all. But domains hosted with certain providers can be. ZeroBounce detects catch-all servers and alerts you.
Automating verification in your workflow
Small volumes (<500 emails): ContactEra's HOT/WARM/LOW classification is sufficient. Send HOT and WARM without additional verification.
Medium volumes (500-5,000): Run the list through NeverBounce before sending. Cost: €1-5. Time: 10 minutes.
Large volumes (5,000+): Integrate verification into your pipeline. ContactEra export → NeverBounce API → automatic cleaning → import to Brevo/Lemlist. Zero manual intervention.
